‘Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols’s ashes might be despatched to area

The late Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols will be part of some fellow Trekkies “the place nobody has gone earlier than.” Nichols, who died in July at age 89, could have her ashes despatched to area.

Nichols was greatest often called Lt. Nyota Uhura within the unique Star Trek sequence. Enjoying one of many first Black ladies in a lead position on American tv, Nichols was a trailblazer who impressed generations — together with NASA astronaut Mae Jemison, the primary Black lady to journey to area. After Star Trek ended, Nichols herself volunteered with NASA on the Astronaut Corps undertaking, to encourage the hiring of marginalized staff.

Nichols might be joined by different departed Star Trek actors and executives: Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry; his spouse and actor Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, who performed a number of roles in several Trek sequence and movies; actor James Doohan, who performed Scotty; and visible results artist Douglas Trumbull, who labored on Star Trek: The Movement Image.

Their stays might be despatched to area on the inaugural Celestis Voyager Memorial Spaceflight by the personal firm Celestis, Inc., which focuses on memorial spaceflights. The date of the voyage hasn’t but been launched, however followers of Nichols can write a tribute message to the actor who went to the ultimate frontier.
